Me, In Summary

One of the first times I attempted to start a blog, I wrote a post titled, “All About Me in 150 Words or Less.” It was exactly as it sounds, my life story all wrapped up in one short paragraph. That may sound a little crazy. I mean, no one’s life story can really be told in 150 words, but it ended up being a great exercise in paying attention to what details really stuck out and led me to where I am today. It goes a little something like this:

“Born and raised in Oklahoma. Daughter of a Baptist preacher and awesome mom. Town of less than 300. Class of 20 something. Valedictorian (life peaked here apparently) in 1996. College at Oklahoma State University. Met The Canadian online. Long drawn out INS visa process. Married August 1, 1998. Right papers not signed. Annulled marriage. Remarried on August 23, 1998. Apartment burns September 1998. Move in with parents. Tornado destroys house May 3rd, 1999. Move to new apartment. New apartment floods. Move to new apartment. New apartment has gas leak, we nearly die. Move to new apartment (losing count at this point). Degree in English/Technical Writing, December 2000. Job search for a year in lousy economy. Start a family instead. Rogit is born October 2002. Build a house, move again, October 2003, hopefully for the last time. Dexter comes along November 2004. Thank God everything has settled down. Life is good.”

And there you have it, the summary of me. Kind of fun, right? So here’s your challenge. Try to write the summary of your life story in 150 words or less, and leave it in the comments below. This post will be up all weekend, so you’ve got time to think about it! It will be a great way for me to get to know those of you who are reading here. So go ahead, give it a shot and have some fun with it. I can’t wait to read all about you, so don’t leave me hanging here!

Have a great weekend!

Here you go “I was born right outside Del City, which is where I was raised. I spent 29 years living there either by myself or with family. Just before my 30 birthday I was married and shortly after had a baby boy. We continued to live in Del City until 2001 when we moved SE of the city where we live today minus the boy. He is in Norman. The fun I had in that first 29 years with the traveling with family to Albuquerque to see the Balloon Fiesta, Yakima, Washington to see family, numerous trips to Six Flags, St. Louis, and Kansas to see the Oak Ridge Boys were all priceless trips. Hubby, Son and I have traveled to see all sorts of places, but I have discovered the more people on a trip the funner it is.” This is why you have a blog and I don’t. 🙂

That was great, Patty! See, I’ve known you my whole life and I still learned something new about you. So cool! Thanks for writing it!

Born and raised in Oklahoma, member of an awesome family. Class of ’96. Met the wrong person. Survived. Met the right person. Class of ’00. Moved to California for a change of perspective. Found Jesus. Found hate. Grew up a little. Found myself. Found love. Traveled. Lived. Moved east to North Carolina in 2006 and spent 4 years fighting. Became a caretaker. Gained wisdom, strength, and scars. Lost myself. Then lost the fight, moved back to California, and started fighting again. Concentrating on living, loving, recovering.

Born in OKC. Raised mainly in OK (military family). Spent 3 yrs in England, Extremely shy, so moving was horrible. Junior high in Del City, high school in Enid, graduated ’96. Went to OSU Stillwater for Bachelors and Masters in Accounting ’01. Spent 1 year working in Tulsa then came back to Enid to get married in ’02. Got a wonderful step-daughter in the deal. Had baby boy in ’05. He fought through 3 hospital stays with RSV and pneumonia. Lots of ear trouble (we are now on his 3rd set of tubes.) Changed jobs in ’06. Almost lost my husband in ’07. Managed to pull together and now it is better than ever. Husband started business in ’09. Moved to an amazing new church in ’10 and it has been a huge blessing for us. Just found out my company is moving to OKC next year and I will be jobless. Trusting in God and trying to determine his direction for my life.

I’m so glad you wrote your story!! Isn’t it crazy how much you can learn about someone in one paragraph? When in ’05 was your little guy born? Declan was born in November of ’04 so they aren’t too far apart. 🙂 Love your attitude about your job, I’ll keep you in my prayers!

Born in Oklahoma, December ’80 strong willed and independent. Grew up in Phoenix (class size approx 1400). Culture shocked in ’94 when moved back to Oklahoma to spend the last year of grandfather’s life with him (high school graduation class size 18). Started college without a dream. Lived in car for 3 months. Switched colleges to Oklahoma State. Found a different life. Almost married a guy – hated mother – better off now. Cancer & Graduation. Job I thought I’d love – realized I didn’t. Returned for grad school. Cancer & Graduation. No job for two years – job from hell for one – Lived with parents entire time. I feel my life is finally starting with new career beginning next month.
